Book clubs, bloggers and social media influencers, thank you so much for exploring the Sankofa Literary Society! We are reading some of the most talented authors in the business as we meet each month in a social setting. We will eat, have a few drinks and read from our featured titles. During the last hour we will discuss the books we are reading.

Our monthly meetings will take place on the the first Sunday of each month at Carolina Kitchen Bar & Grill located at 6501 America Blvd, Hyattsville, MD 20782. Four times per year we will have a birthday celebration for our members.

In December, we will a have a holiday party with family and friends. In March, we will attend the Crown Holders Reader's Retreat.

Sankofa is an Akan word that means, “We must go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward so we understand why and how we came to be who we are today.” This reflects the Akan belief that the past serves as a guide for planning the future, or the wisdom in learning from the past in building the future. We must tell our stories and help others embrace our culture through the arts.

The Sankofa Literary Society is for anyone who is interested in writing books, publishing books, reading great new books, preserving art, and exploring our music. As a co-ed reading group, we will travel to local events, attend library functions and host our own social gathers. Spades and game nights will be a part of our norm!

Sankofa Literary Society is a literary organization which seeks to enrich the lives of people in the DMV by providing information and inspiration through opportunities for education, fellowship, and entrepreneurship. Within our community you will gain knowledge about writing books, publishing books, and what life is like behind the pen!
